Have you been feeling ashamed of your own thoughts? Have you been keeping everything in to make others feel comfortable? Do you feel like no one understands you?
I get it. I know what it is like to feel alone with your thoughts and to feel like no one understands what is going on in your mind. I know how exhausting it is to have to constantly put yourself on the back burner to appease others. That is why my goal as your therapist is for you to come to our session and freely unleash whatever you’re thinking and feeling without the fear of judgment or shame.
I don’t believe in having a “filter” in therapy
If any of this resonates with you, then you’ve come to the right place. I have a passion for creating a safe space for those who may not have access to one. I am eager to work with you to alleviate your pain. I know it can feel unbearable and overwhelming, so I want to commend you for putting your foot down and taking the steps to feel better about life.
Going through traumatic experiences has a way of dimming the light we see at the end of the tunnel, but I am here to help you brighten that light back up.
“10% of life is what happens to me, and 90% of how I react to it.”
-Charles R. Swindoll
I have extensive knowledge on the ways unresolved trauma connects to our physical and mental health, as well as our behaviors and experiences. My knowledge paired with therapeutic strategies will be used to combat the symptoms you are experiencing.
Some ways we can work together to alleviate your symptoms in sessions:
- Collaboration on creating self-care strategies and accumulation of positive experiences
- Reframing negative self-talk and cognitive distortions through CBT
- Gaining insight about your body and the part your nervous system plays in your experience through psychoeducation and learning materials
- Incorporation of DBT skills to improve distress tolerance and emotion regulation
In addition to trauma therapy, I am passionate about women’s issues such as postpartum depression and anxiety. Creating life from scratch is not a small thing, and neither are the emotions and thoughts we experience during and after. My biggest fear for new mothers is not having an outlet to express what they are truly feeling, either out of fear of judgment or consequences. My goal is to be that outlet for you, to support you in this transition without an ounce of judgment.
Education and Experience
I graduated from Rowan University cum laude with a BA of Psychology. I completed graduate school at Liberty University and earned my MA of Clinical Mental Health Counseling with high distinction. I have experience working at the partial hospitalization level of care, as well as experience treating issues such as:
- Women’s trauma
- Suicidal ideation
- Substance abuse
- Postpartum depression/anxiety
- Mood disorders
In addition, I like to spend my free time with the coolest two-year-old I know (AKA my daughter!). I spend the rest of my time doing puzzles, and binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy. Fun fact – my daughter is named after Meredith Grey :)! On any given Sunday you will find me planted in front of my TV watching football – go birds!
